Requirements:
Zsnes 1.36, 1337 or 1.42: Downloads page http://www.zsnes.com/index.php?page=files
1.36: Better for slow connections, less compatible than the others, but work
fine with a lot of games (A game that doesn’t work properly on this one: Street
Fighter Alpha 2).
1337: The nerdy version, it’s the intermediate, works for most games and is not laggy.
1.42: More compatible than the others, but laggy even on fast connections.
If you’re whiling to download Zsnes 1.50 or 1.51, have in mind that it doesn’t have Netplay support. If still you download it, never put it with the other ones, because it will mess with their configuration file.
Open any netplay version, let’s take 1337, configure your joystick on the Input menu, now go on Game and open any game (I presume you downloaded a game, if not, go on romnation website and download one), after opening any game, the emulator will save the rom path by default, now close the emulator by clicking the X on the top, don’t force close it with alt F4 or task manager, if you do so, it won’t save the configuration.
For a better game play (More FPS), I suggest you to disable the video filters on the video configuration, and use a slow resolution like 640x480, don’t worry, if you lower the resolution you won’t lose much in graphics quality, you basically won’t notice the difference between 1280x1024 and 640x480. But if both you and your friend have a fast connection speed, like 2mb or more, you don’t need to worry about this.

Recommended version: zsnes 1337
Download and extract each version to a separate folder, then rename them according to the version. Example: zsnes136.exe, zsnes1337.exe, zsnes142.exe. Now put them all in the same folder. If you’re whiling to download Zsnes 1.50 or 1.51, have in mind that it doesn’t have Netplay support. Znet: Download it here http://www.mediafire.com/download/i4nmo0msam9aazd/Z-Net_I_v1.2.0.2_BETA_install.exe
Step 2: In
“path to zsnes program” insert here “zsnes1337.exe” (M
Step 3: In
“patch to Rom image”, insert the folder path where your roms are.
Now you can connect and create a new game:
Step 1: Click in “create a game room”.
Step 2: Now you have two options, click game and
chose your ROM or click on “Present” and chose the type of Game.
Steo 3: Wait for someone to join, and play.
Final notes:
1 – If you’re behind a router, you have to know how to configure it to forward
the emulator’s ports. If yet nothing works, you can try to use Hamachi
software, which creates a local network so your friend can join it, in your
computer and gives you a different ip, but be warned, it is laggy, specially if
you use it with 1.42 version.
2 – Both
players need to use the same version of emulator and Rom, if they intend to
play.
3 – If a
game doesn’t work on 1.36, try 1337, if it doesn’t work on 1337, your last
choise Is 1.42. There is no other zsnes version better for netplay than those.
After a successful connection:
Me and my friend were talking in Portuguese.
4 – Inside
the game you see some options in the Chat, adjust them according to your needs.
5 – While
playing you can press the letter “T” to chat with your friend, teach him how to
do that too. Take a look at the second picture, where I say "It works_":
